Broomhill Library
Thread Architects are working with an ambitious volunteer group at Broomhill Community Library to imagine how the existing library building could be develop into vibrant centre for the Broomhill community.
The work involves reinventing the entrance to the building to create a level entrance and making all 4 floors of the building fully accessible to all. Internally, flexible spaces are created to expand the facilities offered to the community and the library space expanded to ensure books and reading remain at the heart of the historic building. Externally, we are also working closely with Urban Wilderness as landscape architects to restore the historic Percy Cane gardens to the rear of the building and looking at how the internal spaces can better connect to the unique landscaped gardens that surround 3 sides of the building. The design has been developed in close consultation with the volunteer ground and wider community and is going forward to Heritage Lottery funding to take the plans towards realisation.
