Hello. About time we started blogging! We thought we’d use our first blog to tell you a little more about ourselves. Thread Architects was founded in 2013 by Andy Thomas and Rachel Haynes. We both studied Architecture at the University of Sheffield, Andy qualifying in 2005, Rachel in 2008. We have worked together for the last six years at an award winning practice, where we really enjoyed the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in all sectors at a range of budgets. We chose to set up our own practice to continue to develop our work and do what we love.
In all of our work our inspiration has come from the clients that we have met and worked with to develop designs. We will bring a collaborative approach to your design with you becoming a member of the design team and an active participant of the process. We will suggest ideas and forms to develop the brief together, and then once you are happy that the design fulfills your needs, we will use our experience to bring what you want into reality.
In the past we’ve worked with funeral directors, dentists, staff and pupils at primary schools, secondary schools and special schools and with lots of people wanting to develop their own homes, whether through converting existing buildings, extending or with complete new build houses. We have helped schools to raise money to complete landscape works and got our hands dirty on site to help build a pergola. Our projects are always unique as each client has a new site, new experience and new ideas, this is what keeps our work exciting and keeps our designs developing. We will always aim to bring you something that will delight, is intelligent and also reflects our passion for sustainable design.
Thread is a young and dynamic practice that will bring the enthusiasm and energy needed to create you something remarkable whatever the brief and budget. We’re happy to work at all scales and have the experience and knowledge to take your project through from start to finish, from the original idea, through detailed design and whilst on site.
We’re currently working on a number of residential projects – developing working drawings for a high end housing development as well as a small garden workshop in Wiltshire. We’ve had lots of people talk to us about sheds, as a means of gaining extra space without having to move and are currently considering developing a flexible garden room suitable for a number of purposes…we may have to get our gloves and hammers out again to prototype this idea. Maybe our first office space will be our own self-built ThreadShed?!
