Thread works at a variety of scales and in a variety of ways through client-led, partnering and self-initiated projects and competitions. These include:

Designing and realising buildings: from concept through to completion – this is what we do most and allows us to work with Clients to craft new projects;

Brief building and master planning: such as working with community groups to test and clarify ideas and then help to realise these ideas in the short or long term;

Research and collaboration: we like to test and develop our ideas on architecture or work with others to bring ideas together in successful projects.

Expanding our knowledge: we are excited when we get to explore new methods and materials and already have experience on projects using SIPs, straw bales, timber frame as well as conservation and re-use of existing buildings.

We start work from the initial concept sketches through to the crafted details of the building materials – the bits that you see and touch. Throughout the process we will focus on the experience of the spaces created and the functionality of the design. Sustainability is at the core of our work and is considered through the choice of materials, siting, lifecycle, adaptability and performance.

Working with our clients and partners we look to create a clear shared conservation and ambition for the project through an open process of concept and design development that allow clients to understand and take an active role through to the detailed design and construction stages. We communicate at each stage verbally and with a range of drawings, models and progress reports to allow our clients and partners to make informed and confident decisions.

Once the keys are handed over we will continue to support you as you learn to use and enjoy your new spaces.
