Stannington Library

Stannington Library was one of several council run libraries threatened with closure in 2013. Rather than losing the vital community facility, a team of volunteers took over the running of the library with a vision to develop and grow the facilities for the whole community.

Thread have helped the library group explore options from reworking the existing fittings and furniture to create more open space and improve the useability of the facilities, through to future thinking to explore how the building itself could be extended to add a wide variety of possibilities to how the building is used.

An initial proposal was discussed as a pre-planning enquiry to confirm the building could be extended and the options and ideas are now being reviewed by the library group alongside funding possibilities to allow the library to remain open and expand its use for the community.
