In June 2016 we helped the library staff at the Marlborough College Memorial Library run a workshop exploring ideas for a 21st century library.
The workshop ran over two days at the end of summer term. We led a session looking at the work of an architect and what is involved in the design process then helped to introduce the brief to the students, which was to redesign the existing grade II listed library building into a contemporary 21st century library. The students went on to explore the existing space before getting into sketch designs and ideas boards.
The students then modelled their designs in 3D and prepared presentations to demonstrate their ideas to the library team.
The winning design met and exceeded the requirements of the design brief, provided light and welcoming new reading spaces and the presentation included a video walkthrough of a scaled 3D model of the scheme - impressive!
